Dean Markley Blue Steel 5-String Electric Bass Strings Cryogenically Treated Stainless Steel Dean Markley Blue Steel electric bass strings are cryogenically treated in liquid nitrogen to produce a "super" string. Like the Blue Steel electric guitar strings, their bass strings also start out with the advantage of being stainless steel. Then they are given a cryogenic treatment in liquid nitrogen (-321F) to enhance their crystalline micro-structure. The result is a string with "super" tone and endurance. Dean Markley Blue Steel electric bass strings give you clear and brilliant tone, like no other string available today. They also outlast other strings, so your tone doesn't die young. The cryogenic process improves the already impressive mechanical properties of the string down at the molecular level, by essentially realigning the crystalline structure and homogenizing its characteristics. The transformation is essentially permanent, and is retained as the metal returns to room temperature. The surface of these strings is a little harder and wears longer, with no soft spots or weak areas. Tensile strength of the string is also improved, meaning it won't stretch as much as "untreated" strings over the lifetime of the string.
