Elixir understands that you want great tone and clean, smooth strings when you play your guitar. That's why they created their amazing coatings for wound strings and their anti-rust plated, plain steel strings. Ordinary strings have a tendency to collect dirt, oils, and residues between the wraps of wound strings. They are not easily removed, in spite of our best efforts to wipe our strings down frequently, and they interfere with the free vibration of the strings, and leads to corrosion. This eventually results in loss of tone, and dull sounding strings. Elixir's coatings form a protective barrier over the outside of the wound strings, preventing the invasion of contaminants between the windings. Nothing gets past the coating, so your strings stay clean longer. In addition, the plain strings are also treated with Elixir's anti-rust coating, to keep them clean and sounding great three to five times longer than ordinary strings.
